What makes an evening routine actually work

A good wind-down routine is not built around a list of strict rules. It is built around a few cues your brain can recognize without effort. That usually means repeating the same basic sequence each night: dim the lights, reduce stimulation, and make your environment feel quieter.

The goal is not to become a different person at bedtime. It is to signal to yourself that the day is ending and your body can start softening into rest. The habit becomes easier to keep when it feels natural, not forced.

If you are trying to create a better evening rhythm, start with the parts that are easiest to repeat. Keep the routine short and predictable.
